Can remedial massage relieve my headache?

Do you get headaches? If yes, then read on..

The tension-type headache is the most prevalent primary headache type in the world. Over 50% of the population have suffered from some sort of headache in the last year and 30% have reported migraines. Unfortunately, headaches are part of the new normal, and for some it’s been a struggle to live with the symptoms of headache related issues.

So how can we help alleviate symptoms? Remedial massage can help!

Tension-type headaches are the most common, they typically produce a strong constant pain or pressure across the forehead, sides or back of head and tenderness on the scalp or muscles of the neck, upper back, shoulders, and jaw. Remedial massage can significantly relieve tension by releasing tight muscles in the head, neck and shoulder through massage, stretch techniques and trigger point release.

A study where sufferers received regular remedial massage treatments concluded remedial massage can significantly reduce frequency, intensity and duration of headaches in participants. The participants received 30-minute massage weekly for 4 weeks following the baseline period of 4 weeks with no treatment. The researchers concluded that manual therapy is an effective non-pharmacological intervention for the treatment of tension headaches.

As you can see remedial massage is an effective treatment to reduce frequency, intensity and duration of headaches. You can have more frequent treatments depending on your symptoms.
